Role:PerformerMichael Kelly was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of opera and vocal music. Born on December 25, 1762, in Dublin, Ireland, Kelly was the son of a dancing master and a singer. He showed an early interest in music and began his training at a young age. Kelly's musical education began with his father, who taught him to play the violin and sing. He later studied with the composer and organist William Crotch and the Italian singing teacher Giuseppe Aprile. Kelly's talent as a singer was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained a reputation as a gifted performer. In 1783, Kelly made his debut as a professional singer in Dublin, performing in the opera "Artaxerxes." He soon became a popular performer in Ireland and England, and in 1787, he was invited to perform at the court of King Louis XVI in Paris. This was a significant honor for Kelly, and it helped to establish his reputation as an international performer. Kelly's career continued to flourish, and he performed in many of the major opera houses of Europe, including La Scala in Milan and the Royal Opera House in London. He was particularly renowned for his performances in the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and he was one of the first singers to perform the role of Don Basilio in "The Marriage of Figaro." In addition to his work as a singer, Kelly was also a composer and a writer. He wrote several operas, including "Bluebeard" and "The Romance of the Forest," and he also wrote a memoir of his life and career, which was published in 1826. One of the highlights of Kelly's career was his performance in the premiere of Ludwig van Beethoven's opera "Fidelio" in 1805. Kelly sang the role of Don Fernando, and his performance was widely praised. Beethoven himself was impressed with Kelly's singing, and he wrote a letter to Kelly expressing his admiration. Kelly's career continued to thrive throughout the early 19th century, and he remained a popular performer until his retirement in 1826. He was awarded several honors during his career, including the title of "Gentleman of the Chapel Royal" in 1795 and the title of "Knight of the Golden Spur" in 1814. Kelly died on October 9, 1826, in Margate, England, at the age of 63. He was remembered as one of the greatest singers of his time, and his contributions to the world of opera and vocal music continue to be celebrated today.More....
