Jonas Hacker is a classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a pianist and composer. Born on May 22, 1994, in New York City, Jonas showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. His parents, both musicians themselves, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion. Jonas received his early musical training at the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky. He later went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he was a student of Robert McDonald. During his time at Curtis, Jonas won numerous awards and competitions, including the Philadelphia Orchestra's Greenfield Competition and the Astral Artists National Auditions. In 2016, Jonas made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The performance was a critical success, with The Philadelphia Inquirer praising Jonas's "impeccable technique and musicality." Since then, Jonas has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a pianist, Jonas is also an accomplished composer. His compositions have been performed by ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, and he has been commissioned to write works for the Curtis Institute of Music and the Tanglewood Music Center. One of Jonas's most notable compositions is his Piano Concerto No. 1, which he premiered with the Philadelphia Orchestra in 2019. The concerto, which was written specifically for Jonas, showcases his virtuosic piano playing and his skill as a composer. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The Philadelphia Inquirer calling it "a stunning display of musicianship and artistry." In addition to his performances and compositions, Jonas is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at institutions such as the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music, and he has served as a faculty member at the Tanglewood Music Center. Throughout his career, Jonas has received numerous awards and honors. In 2018, he was named a Gilmore Young Artist, an award that recognizes exceptional young pianists. He has also been a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Arthur W. Foote Award, and the Gina Bachauer Piano Scholarship. Despite his many accomplishments, Jonas remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push himself as a performer and composer, always striving to improve and grow as an artist.
