He was the son of a music teacher and began his musical education at a young age. Lamond showed great promise as a pianist and was soon recognized as a prodigy. Lamond's early musical education was under the tutelage of his father, William Lamond. He then went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he was a student of the renowned pianist and composer, Tobias Matthay. Lamond's talent was quickly recognized, and he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany. At the Leipzig Conservatory, Lamond studied under the famous pianist and composer, Franz Liszt. Liszt was impressed with Lamond's talent and took him under his wing, becoming his mentor and friend. Lamond's time with Liszt was a formative period in his musical development, and he was greatly influenced by the master's teachings. After completing his studies in Leipzig, Lamond embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosity and musicality. Lamond was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Liszt, and Chopin. In addition to his career as a performer, Lamond was also a prolific composer.
