Anner Bijlsma was a renowned Dutch cellist who was born on February 17, 1934, in The Hague, Netherlands. He was the son of a violinist and a pianist, and his parents recognized his musical talent at an early age. Bijlsma began playing the cello when he was six years old, and he quickly showed a natural aptitude for the instrument. Bijlsma's early musical education was guided by his father, who was a member of the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he was taught by the renowned cellist Carel van Leeuwen Boomkamp. Bijlsma's talent was quickly recognized, and he won several awards and prizes during his time at the conservatory. After completing his studies, Bijlsma began his professional career as a cellist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented cellists of his generation, and he was invited to perform with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras. Bijlsma was particularly renowned for his performances of Baroque music, and he was considered one of the foremost interpreters of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. One of Bijlsma's most notable performances was his rendition of Bach's six suites for unaccompanied cello.
