The McCapra Quartet is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and style since their founding in 2008. The quartet is made up of four talented musicians, each with their own distinct musical background and expertise. The members of the McCapra Quartet are violinists Sarah McElravy and Emily Deans, violist Caeli Smith, and cellist Madeline Fayette. The McCapra Quartet was founded in New York City by Sarah McElravy and Emily Deans, who met while studying at the Juilliard School. The two violinists quickly bonded over their shared love of chamber music and decided to form a quartet. They were soon joined by Caeli Smith, a violist who had also studied at Juilliard, and Madeline Fayette, a cellist who had recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music. The quartet's name, McCapra, is a combination of the members' last names. It also pays homage to the Italian word "capra," which means goat. The quartet chose this name because they wanted to embody the energy and playfulness of a goat in their music-making. Since their founding, the McCapra Quartet has become known for their dynamic and engaging performances. They have performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They have also been featured on numerous radio and television programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and WQXR's "Young Artists Showcase." One of the highlights of the McCapra Quartet's career was their performance at the 2012 Aspen Music Festival. The quartet was invited to participate in the festival's prestigious Advanced String Quartet Studies program, where they worked closely with renowned chamber musicians such as the Emerson Quartet and the Takács Quartet. The quartet's performance at the festival was met with critical acclaim, and they were praised for their "impeccable technique" and "sensitive musicality." In addition to their performances, the McCapra Quartet is also committed to education and outreach. They have worked with numerous schools and community organizations to bring classical music to underserved communities. They have also conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, sharing their knowledge and expertise with the next generation of chamber musicians. The McCapra Quartet has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2010, they were awarded the Grand Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the world. They have also been awarded the Silver Medal at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and the Bronze Medal at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition. Despite their success, the members of the McCapra Quartet remain humble and dedicated to their craft. They continue to push themselves to new heights, exploring new repertoire and collaborating with other musicians and artists. Their passion for chamber music is evident in every performance, and they are sure to continue captivating audiences for years to come.
