He showed great talent and dedication to his craft, and by the age of 12, he had already won several local piano competitions. His parents recognized his potential and decided to enroll him in the Bratislava Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Ludovit Rajter. During his time at the conservatory, Maurery continued to excel in his studies and won several national and international piano competitions. In 1958, he graduated with honors and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Moscow Conservatory in Russia. There, he studied under the guidance of legendary pianist and teacher, Emil Gilels.
