Scott Brickman is a contemporary classical music composer who was born on August 22, 1959, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a classical pianist. Brickman started playing the piano at the age of five and began composing music when he was just eight years old. Brickman received his Bachelor of Music degree in composition from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1981. He then went on to earn his Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Michigan in 1983. During his time at the University of Michigan, Brickman studied with renowned composers William Bolcom and Leslie Bassett. After completing his studies, Brickman moved to New York City, where he worked as a freelance composer and pianist. He also taught music theory and composition at the City College of New York and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Brickman's music is characterized by its tonal and melodic qualities, drawing inspiration from a variety of musical styles, including jazz, rock, and classical. His compositions often feature lush harmonies and intricate rhythms, showcasing his skill as a composer and pianist.
