Josep Colomé is a renowned classical pianist from Spain, known for his exceptional technique and musicality. He was born on October 25, 1947, in Barcelona, Spain, and began his musical studies at a young age. His parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Colomé studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, where he received his degree in piano performance. He then went on to study with some of the most renowned pianists of the time, including Maria João Pires, Alicia de Larrocha, and Claudio Arrau. In 1970, Colomé won the prestigious Paloma O'Shea International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain, which launched his career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation, and began performing in major concert halls around the world. Throughout his career, Colomé has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, and Daniel Barenboim. One of Colomé's most notable performances was his 1986 debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, where he received a standing ovation for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 32. He has also performed at other major venues around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Colomé has recorded extensively throughout his career, with over 30 albums to his name. His recordings have received critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or. In addition to his performing career, Colomé has also been a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, as well as at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as pianists themselves. Throughout his career, Colomé has been recognized for his contributions to the world of classical music. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the National Music Prize of Catalonia, the Gold Medal of the City of Barcelona, and the Cross of Sant Jordi, one of the highest honors awarded by the government of Catalonia.
