Alexander Tomkinson was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Tomkinson showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Tomkinson's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of seven. Under her guidance, Tomkinson developed a deep understanding and appreciation for classical music. As a teenager, Tomkinson continued to hone his skills and began performing in various concerts and competitions. In 2003, he won first prize in the prestigious International Piano Competition in Leeds, England. This win catapulted him into the international spotlight and opened up many opportunities for him. Tomkinson went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honors. He then continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he earned a Master of Music degree. Throughout his career, Tomkinson has performed in some of the world's most renowned concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Tomkinson's most memorable performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2010. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor" concerto, to critical acclaim. The Berliner Zeitung praised Tomkinson's "brilliant technique and musicality," while the Berliner Morgenpost called his performance "a revelation." Tomkinson has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In addition to his win at the International Piano Competition in Leeds, he has won first prize in the International Piano Competition in Warsaw and the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna.
