Kern Railsback was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. Born on January 15, 1945, in New York City, Kern was the son of a music teacher and a pianist. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Kern's early years were spent studying music theory and piano under the guidance of his mother. He also attended the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where he studied piano performance. During his time at Juilliard, Kern was exposed to a wide range of musical styles and genres, which helped him develop his own unique style. After completing his studies at Juilliard, Kern began performing in various concerts and recitals across the United States. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist and was soon invited to perform with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the country. In 1970, he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic, which was a major milestone in his career. Over the years, Kern continued to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also performed in numerous solo recitals and chamber music concerts, where he showcased his exceptional talent and musicality. One of the highlights of Kern's career was his performance at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He was invited to perform at the opening ceremony, where he played a piece by Beethoven on a specially designed piano that was suspended in mid-air. The performance was widely acclaimed and helped to cement Kern's reputation as one of the world's leading classical music artists. Throughout his career, Kern received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of music. In 1982, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, which is considered one of the highest honors in classical music. He was also awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1992, which is the highest honor given to artists and arts patrons by the United States government. Kern was known for his exceptional talent and his ability to bring out the best in any piece of music he played. He was a master of interpretation and was able to convey the emotions and nuances of a piece with great sensitivity and depth.
