The Boston Pops Gospel Choir is a renowned classical music group that has been captivating audiences with their soulful performances for over 25 years. The choir was founded in 1994 by Charles Floyd, a pianist, conductor, and composer who has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and the Boston Pops Orchestra. The choir was born out of Floyd's desire to bring together a group of talented singers who could perform gospel music with the same level of precision and artistry as classical music. He auditioned over 200 singers from the Boston area and selected 150 to form the choir. The group quickly gained a reputation for their powerful performances, which blended traditional gospel music with classical arrangements. One of the highlights of the choir's early years was their performance at the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, where they sang for President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. The choir also performed at the 1998 Grammy Awards, where they accompanied gospel singer CeCe Winans on her hit song "Well Alright." Over the years, the Boston Pops Gospel Choir has performed with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, and Jennifer Hudson. They have also collaborated with the Boston Pops Orchestra on numerous occasions, performing at the orchestra's annual Fourth of July concert on the Esplanade in Boston. In addition to their live performances, the choir has released several albums, including "Testify!" and "Christmas with the Boston Pops Gospel Choir." Their recordings have received critical acclaim and have been nominated for several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album. One of the choir's most memorable performances was their tribute to the victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The choir performed a moving rendition of "Amazing Grace" at the interfaith service held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston, which was attended by President Barack Obama and other dignitaries. The Boston Pops Gospel Choir has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Gospel Act and the Gospel Music Association's Dove Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album. They have also been recognized for their contributions to the community, receiving the Boston NAACP's Image Award for their work promoting racial harmony and social justice. Despite their success, the Boston Pops Gospel Choir remains committed to their mission of spreading the joy and power of gospel music to audiences around the world. They continue to perform regularly, both on their own and with other artists, and are always looking for new ways to inspire and uplift their listeners.
