Pro Arte Trio is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over six decades. The trio was founded in 1959 by pianist Menahem Pressler, violinist Bernard Zaslav, and cellist Claus Adam. The ensemble has undergone several changes in its lineup over the years, but its commitment to excellence in music has remained constant. The founding members of Pro Arte Trio were all accomplished musicians in their own right. Menahem Pressler was born in Germany in 1923 and began playing the piano at a young age. He studied at the Music Academy in Tel Aviv and later at the Indiana University School of Music. Bernard Zaslav was born in New York City in 1926 and began playing the violin at the age of six. He studied at the Juilliard School and later at the Curtis Institute of Music. Claus Adam was born in Germany in 1922 and began playing the cello at the age of eight. He studied at the Music Academy in Berlin and later at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. The Pro Arte Trio made their debut performance in 1959 at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The trio quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to bring out the best in each other's playing. They went on to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Festival Hall in London. One of the highlights of the Pro Arte Trio's career was their performance at the White House in 1979. They were invited to perform for President Jimmy Carter and his guests at a state dinner. The trio played a selection of classical music pieces, including works by Beethoven and Brahms. The performance was well-received, and the trio received a standing ovation from the audience. Over the years, the Pro Arte Trio has received numerous awards and accolades for their exceptional performances. In 1963, they were awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome by the French government. This award is given to outstanding musicians who have demonstrated exceptional talent and promise in their field. The trio was also awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio. In addition to their performances and awards, the Pro Arte Trio has also been committed to educating the next generation of musicians. They have taught master classes at universities and music schools around the world, including the Juilliard School, the New England Conservatory, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. They have also mentored young musicians through their Pro Arte Foundation, which provides scholarships and performance opportunities to promising young musicians. The Pro Arte Trio has undergone several changes in its lineup over the years. Claus Adam retired from the trio in 1978 and was replaced by cellist Leslie Parnas. Bernard Zaslav retired from the trio in 2001 and was replaced by violinist Jaime Laredo. Menahem Pressler remained with the trio until 2017, when he retired at the age of 93. He was replaced by pianist Alon Goldstein. Despite these changes, the Pro Arte Trio has remained committed to their mission of bringing exceptional classical music performances to audiences around the world. They continue to perform at concert halls and music festivals, and their recordings are widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike.
