Born on May 12, 1975, in New York City, Torgelson grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a professional pianist, and his mother was a violinist. From a young age, Torgelson was exposed to classical music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Torgelson's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly became a prodigy. He began performing in public at the age of six and made his debut with the New York Philharmonic at the age of ten. Torgelson's parents recognized his potential and provided him with the best possible training. He studied with some of the most renowned violinists of his time, including Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, and Isaac Stern. Torgelson's career took off in the early 1990s when he won several prestigious competitions, including the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and the Naumburg International Violin Competition. These victories brought him to the attention of the classical music world, and he began performing with major orchestras around the world. One of Torgelson's most significant performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1995. He performed the Brahms Violin Concerto under the baton of Claudio Abbado, and the performance was met with critical acclaim. Torgelson's virtuosity and musicality were praised, and he was hailed as one of the most promising young violinists of his generation. Torgelson's career continued to flourish throughout the 1990s and 2000s. He performed with major orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra.
