He was born in Paris in 1601, into a family of musicians. His father, Jacques Champion de Chambonnières, was a lutenist and composer, and his mother, Marie Leclerc, was a singer. Jacques Champion Chambonnières grew up in a musical environment and began his musical education at a young age. Chambonnières was a prodigious talent and quickly became known for his skills as a harpsichordist. He was appointed as the harpsichordist to the Duke of Orléans in 1627, and later served as the harpsichordist to King Louis XIII. He was also a member of the royal court and performed at many of the court's events. Chambonnières was a prolific composer, and his works were highly regarded during his lifetime. He composed a large number of pieces for the harpsichord, including preludes, allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, gigues, and chaconnes. His music was characterized by its elegance, refinement, and sophistication, and was considered to be some of the finest music of the Baroque period. One of Chambonnières' most famous works is his Pièces de clavecin, which was published in 1670. This collection of harpsichord pieces includes some of his most beautiful and complex compositions, and is considered to be one of the most important works of the Baroque era. The Pièces de clavecin includes a variety of different forms, including preludes, allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, gigues, and chaconnes, and showcases Chambonnières' mastery of the harpsichord. Chambonnières' music was highly influential, and his style had a significant impact on the development of French Baroque music. His works were admired by many of his contemporaries, including Jean-Baptiste Lully, François Couperin, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
