Born in 1963 in Shanghai, China, Yang Jing grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a renowned composer and conductor, and her mother was a professional singer. Yang Jing started her formal music education at the age of six when she began to learn the pipa, a traditional Chinese stringed instrument. One of Yang Jing's most famous compositions is "The Dance of the Yi People," which was inspired by the music and dance of the Yi ethnic group in China. Another notable composition by Yang Jing is "The Butterfly Lovers," which is based on a famous Chinese legend and has been performed by orchestras around the world.
