He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. From a young age, Sporsen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later went on to study at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where he received his diploma in piano performance. Sporsen's career as a classical music artist began in the early 1970s when he started performing in various concerts and recitals across Norway. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist and was soon invited to perform in other countries as well. In 1974, he made his debut in the United States, performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. This performance was a major milestone in Sporsen's career and helped to establish him as an international artist. Over the years, Sporsen continued to perform in concerts and recitals around the world, earning critical acclaim for his technical skill and musical interpretation. He was particularly known for his performances of the works of Norwegian composers such as Edvard Grieg and Johan Halvorsen. In addition to his solo performances, Sporsen also collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. One of the highlights of Sporsen's career was his performance at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea.
