Anima Mundi Consort is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2006 in Miami, Florida. The group is known for its unique blend of early music and contemporary compositions, as well as its commitment to exploring the connections between different musical traditions. The founding members of Anima Mundi Consort were flutist and artistic director Maria Alejandra Rodriguez and harpsichordist and music director Anna Maria Williams. Both musicians had extensive experience performing and teaching early music, and they shared a passion for exploring the connections between different musical traditions. Over the years, Anima Mundi Consort has grown to include a number of other talented musicians, including violinist Orlando Forte, cellist Rafael Ramirez, and percussionist Michael Di Gregorio. The group has also collaborated with a number of guest artists, including soprano Maria Laura Martorana and guitarist Federico Bonacossa. One of the highlights of Anima Mundi Consort's career was their performance at the 2012 Boston Early Music Festival. The group was invited to perform as part of the festival's Fringe Concert series, which showcases up-and-coming early music ensembles from around the world. Anima Mundi Consort's performance was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish the group as a rising star in the early music world. Another notable performance by Anima Mundi Consort was their 2015 concert at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. The concert, titled "Gardens of the Baroque," featured music by composers such as Vivaldi, Handel, and Bach, as well as contemporary works inspired by the Baroque era. The concert was praised for its beautiful setting and the group's skillful and engaging performance. In addition to their performances, Anima Mundi Consort has also received a number of awards and accolades over the years. In 2010, the group was awarded a grant from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs to support their educational outreach programs. The group has also been featured on a number of radio programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and WLRN's "South Florida Arts Beat." Anima Mundi Consort's repertoire is diverse and eclectic, ranging from early music from the Renaissance and Baroque eras to contemporary works by living composers. The group is particularly interested in exploring the connections between different musical traditions, and has performed works that blend elements of Western classical music with music from other cultures, such as Indian classical music and traditional African music. One of the group's signature works is their arrangement of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" for flute, harpsichord, and string quartet. The arrangement, which was created by Maria Alejandra Rodriguez, features a number of innovative and creative touches, such as the use of percussion to simulate the sound of rain in the "Spring" movement. Anima Mundi Consort is also committed to educational outreach, and has developed a number of programs designed to introduce young people to the joys of classical music. The group has performed at schools and community centers throughout South Florida, and has developed a number of interactive programs that allow children to learn about different musical traditions and instruments. Overall, Anima Mundi Consort is a unique and innovative ensemble that is dedicated to exploring the connections between different musical traditions.
