Giovanni Acciai was born on May 12, 1985, in Florence, Italy. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Acciai showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Acciai began his musical education at the age of six, studying piano with his father. He quickly progressed and started performing in public at the age of eight. At the age of ten, he started studying violin with his mother, and by the age of twelve, he was performing as a soloist with orchestras. In 2003, Acciai was accepted into the Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini in Florence, where he studied piano with Maestro Andrea Lucchesini and composition with Maestro Fabio Vacchi. During his time at the conservatory, Acciai won several awards, including the first prize at the International Piano Competition "Città di Marsala" in 2005 and the first prize at the International Piano Competition "Città di Treviso" in 2006. After graduating from the conservatory in 2007, Acciai continued his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he studied with Maestro Sergio Perticaroli. During his time in Rome, Acciai won several awards, including the first prize at the International Piano Competition "Città di Sulmona" in 2008 and the first prize at the International Piano Competition "Città di Pinerolo" in 2009. Acciai's career as a concert pianist took off in 2010 when he won the first prize at the International Piano Competition "Città di Brescia." This led to numerous concert engagements throughout Italy and Europe, including performances at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, and the Musikverein in Vienna. Acciai's repertoire includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, among others. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, and his recording of Chopin's complete Nocturnes has received critical acclaim. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Acciai is also a composer. His compositions have been performed by orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Italy and Europe. In 2015, he was commissioned by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia to write a piece for their 300th anniversary celebration. Acciai has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Premio Abbiati in 2012, which is the highest honor for classical music in Italy. He has also been awarded the title of "Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic" for his contributions to Italian culture. Acciai continues to perform and record, and his concerts are highly anticipated by audiences and critics alike. He is considered one of the most talented and promising pianists of his generation, and his passion for music and dedication to his craft continue to inspire audiences around the world.
