Lawrence Del Casale was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a professional pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Lawrence showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. As a child, Lawrence was enrolled in the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he received rigorous training in classical piano. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance. During his time at Juilliard, Lawrence studied under the tutelage of renowned pianists such as Emanuel Ax and Yoheved Kaplinsky. After completing his undergraduate studies, Lawrence went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music. There, he studied with Boris Berman and Peter Frankl, two highly respected pianists and educators. Lawrence's time at Yale was marked by numerous accolades, including the prestigious Elizabeth Parisot Prize for outstanding pianism. Following his graduation from Yale, Lawrence embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. He has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe, appearing in venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Lawrence has also collaborated with many esteemed orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of Lawrence's most notable performances was his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010. He performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "virtuosic technique and sensitive musicality," while the New Yorker hailed him as "a pianist of exceptional talent and promise." In addition to his solo performances, Lawrence is also an avid chamber musician. He has collaborated with many renowned artists, including violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Lawrence is a founding member of the Del Casale Trio, which has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Throughout his career, Lawrence has received numerous awards and honors. In addition to the Elizabeth Parisot Prize, he has been awarded the Gilmore Young Artist Award, the Avery Fisher Career Grant, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition's Jury Discretionary Award. He has also been a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, commonly known as the "genius grant."
