John Wilson was a British conductor and arranger, born on May 4, 1972, in Gateshead, England. He grew up in a musical family, with his father being a brass band conductor and his mother a piano teacher. Wilson started playing the piano at the age of four and later learned to play the trumpet and French horn. He attended the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied conducting with Norman Del Mar and composition with Joseph Horovitz. Wilson's career as a conductor began in 1994 when he was appointed the assistant conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He quickly gained recognition for his talent and was appointed the principal conductor of the Northern Sinfonia in 1999.
