The group was founded in 1989 by a group of handbell enthusiasts who wanted to create a professional-level handbell choir that could perform at the highest level. The group started small, with just a handful of members, but quickly grew in popularity as they began to perform at local churches and community events. Their unique sound, which combines the delicate tones of handbells with the power of a full choir, quickly caught the attention of music lovers across the country. Over the years, Extol Handbell Choir has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House. They have also been featured on numerous television and radio programs, including NPR's "All Things Considered" and "A Prairie Home Companion." One of the highlights of the group's career came in 1996, when they were invited to perform at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. The group performed a special arrangement of "America the Beautiful" that was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world.
