Colette Diard was born on May 12, 1985, in Paris, France. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Colette showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Colette's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking lessons with renowned violinists in France and quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. At the age of 12, Colette won first prize in the prestigious Concours National des Jeunes Violonistes, a national competition for young violinists in France. Colette continued to excel in her studies and was accepted into the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. She studied under the guidance of renowned violinists such as Jean-Jacques Kantorow and Olivier Charlier. During her time at the conservatory, Colette participated in numerous competitions and won several awards. In 2005, she won first prize in the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world. This win catapulted her career and she began receiving invitations to perform with major orchestras around the world. Colette's performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. She was known for her ability to bring out the nuances of a piece and connect with her audience on a deep level. Her performances were often described as "mesmerizing" and "spellbinding." One of Colette's most memorable performances was her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2007. She performed Brahms' Violin Concerto in D major under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. The performance was met with a standing ovation and rave reviews from critics. Colette continued to perform with major orchestras around the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. She also collaborated with renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, and Riccardo Muti. In addition to her performances, Colette was also a dedicated teacher. She taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and gave masterclasses around the world. Her students praised her for her patience, kindness, and ability to inspire them to reach their full potential. Colette's career was tragically cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. Despite her illness, she continued to perform and inspire audiences around the world. Her final performance was in 2017, when she performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic. Colette passed away on August 15, 2017, at the age of 32. Her legacy lives on through her recordings and the countless musicians she inspired throughout her career.
