Born in Toronto in 1978, Bell grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. He later learned to play the trumpet and the guitar, and began singing in choirs and playing in bands. Bell attended the University of Toronto, where he studied music theory and composition. He also studied jazz and classical music, and began performing in various ensembles and groups. In 2001, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree, and went on to pursue a career in music. Bell's career took off in the early 2000s, when he began performing with the Canadian Brass, a renowned brass quintet. He played the trumpet and sang with the group, and toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. He also recorded several albums with the Canadian Brass, including "Swing That Music" and "Canadian Brass Takes Flight." In addition to his work with the Canadian Brass, Bell has also performed with other notable classical music ensembles, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with jazz musicians such as Dave Brubeck and Phil Nimmons. Bell is also an accomplished composer and arranger, and has written music for a variety of ensembles and genres.
