Pallade Musica is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2007 in Montreal, Canada. The ensemble is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of Baroque and Classical music, as well as its commitment to exploring lesser-known works from these periods. The founding members of Pallade Musica were violinist Elinor Frey, harpsichordist Mélisande Corriveau, and flutist Vincent Lauzer. All three musicians had extensive experience performing with other ensembles and were drawn together by their shared passion for early music. From the beginning, Pallade Musica set out to create performances that were both historically informed and engaging for modern audiences. The ensemble's name is a reference to the Greek goddess Pallas Athena, who was associated with wisdom, creativity, and the arts. Over the years, Pallade Musica has expanded its membership to include a range of other talented musicians, including cellist Esteban La Rotta, violist Felix Deak, and soprano Véronique Gagné. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of guest artists, including lutenist Nigel North and countertenor Daniel Taylor. One of the highlights of Pallade Musica's early career was its performance at the 2008 Montreal Baroque Festival. The ensemble's program, which included works by Bach, Telemann, and Handel, was praised for its energy and virtuosity. Pallade Musica went on to perform at a number of other festivals and concert series in Canada and the United States, including the Boston Early Music Festival and the Ottawa Chamberfest. In 2012, Pallade Musica released its debut album, "Sonatas for Violoncello and Harpsichord," which featured works by Vivaldi, Boccherini, and Gabrielli. The album was well-received by critics and helped to establish the ensemble as a rising star in the early music world. In the years that followed, Pallade Musica continued to push the boundaries of early music performance, experimenting with new approaches to improvisation and ornamentation. The ensemble's 2016 album, "The Bach and the Beautiful," was a particularly ambitious project, featuring a range of works by J.S. Bach as well as new compositions inspired by his music. Pallade Musica has also been recognized for its contributions to the early music field. In 2014, the ensemble was awarded the Prix Opus for "Discovery of the Year" by the Conseil québécois de la musique. The following year, Pallade Musica was named a finalist for the prestigious Prix Opus for "Concert of the Year" for its performance of Bach's "Goldberg Variations." Today, Pallade Musica continues to be a leading voice in the early music world, known for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The ensemble's commitment to exploring the rich and varied repertoire of the Baroque and Classical periods has helped to bring this music to new audiences and to inspire a new generation of musicians.More....
