Stéphanie Detry is a Belgian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and sensitive interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born in Brussels in 1989, Detry began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied with renowned teachers such as Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden and Daniel Blumenthal, and went on to earn degrees from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Detry's early career was marked by a series of impressive competition wins, including first prize at the 2008 International Piano Competition of Lagny-sur-Marne and the 2010 Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship. She also received the prestigious Prix de la Fondation Belge de la Vocation in 2011, which recognized her as one of the most promising young musicians in Belgium. In addition to her success in competitions, Detry has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and Asia. She has appeared at major venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, and has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the Brussels Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de Lille, and the China Philharmonic Orchestra. One of Detry's most notable performances came in 2015, when she was invited to play at the opening concert of the prestigious La Roque d'Anthéron International Piano Festival in France. Her program included works by Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel, and she received rave reviews for her technical brilliance and expressive depth. The following year, she returned to the festival to perform a recital of Schumann, Brahms, and Debussy, cementing her reputation as one of the most exciting young pianists on the international scene. Detry's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works from the Baroque to the contemporary period. She has a particular affinity for the music of Chopin, and has recorded his complete Nocturnes for the Fuga Libera label. Her other recordings include a disc of works by Schumann and Brahms, and a collaboration with the Belgian cellist Marie Hallynck on the album "Cello Sonatas" by Beethoven and Brahms. In addition to her performing career, Detry is also a dedicated teacher and has given masterclasses at institutions such as the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She is committed to sharing her love of music with the next generation of musicians and helping them to develop their own artistic voices. Overall, Stéphanie Detry is a remarkable talent who has achieved a great deal in her relatively short career. Her technical prowess, musical sensitivity, and dedication to her craft have earned her a place among the most exciting pianists of her generation, and she is sure to continue making waves in the classical music world for years to come.
