Joe Sullivan was an American jazz pianist and composer who was born on November 4, 1906, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the youngest of five children and grew up in a musical family. His father played the violin, and his mother played the piano. Sullivan began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Sullivan's formal music education began at the age of eight when he started taking piano lessons. He continued his studies at the Chicago Musical College and later at the New York College of Music. During his time in New York, Sullivan began playing in jazz clubs and quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist.
