After completing his studies at the National School of Music, Tzonev went on to study at the National Academy of Music "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, where he earned a degree in piano performance. During his time at the academy, Tzonev also began to develop an interest in conducting and composition, and he went on to study these disciplines in more depth. Tzonev's talent as a musician quickly became apparent, and he began to receive recognition for his work. In 2001, he won first prize in the National Competition for Young Pianists in Bulgaria, and in 2002, he won first prize in the International Competition for Young Pianists in Romania. These early successes helped to establish Tzonev as a rising star in the world of classical music. In the years that followed, Tzonev continued to build his reputation as a musician, performing as a soloist and chamber musician in Bulgaria and abroad. He also began to focus more on conducting and composition, and in 2006, he founded the Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra, which he still leads today.
