Wind Sync is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2009 by five young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The group is based in Houston, Texas, and consists of Garrett Hudson (flute), Erin Tsai (oboe), Jack Marquardt (clarinet), Tracy Jacobson (bassoon), and Anni Hochhalter (horn). The members of Wind Sync met while studying at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston. They quickly discovered a shared love for chamber music and began performing together as a quintet. In 2009, they decided to form Wind Sync and dedicate themselves to performing and promoting chamber music. Since its founding, Wind Sync has become one of the most sought-after chamber music ensembles in the United States. The group has performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center. They have also been featured on NPR's Performance Today and have collaborated with renowned musicians such as pianist Jon Nakamatsu and cellist Bion Tsang. One of Wind Sync's most notable achievements was winning the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition in 2012. This competition is one of the most prestigious in the classical music world and has launched the careers of many successful musicians. Wind Sync's victory helped to establish them as a rising star in the chamber music scene. In addition to their performances, Wind Sync is also committed to music education and outreach. The group has conducted masterclasses and workshops at schools and universities across the United States, and they have developed a program called "Music for All" that brings music education to underserved communities. Wind Sync's repertoire is diverse and includes works from the classical, contemporary, and world music genres. The group is known for their innovative programming, which often features new arrangements and compositions. They have also commissioned works from several composers, including Michael Gilbertson and Paul Lansky. One of Wind Sync's most memorable performances was their 2016 concert at Carnegie Hall, which featured a program of works by American composers. The group received critical acclaim for their performance, with The New York Times praising their "polished and spirited playing." Another highlight of Wind Sync's career was their 2018 tour of China, where they performed in several major cities and collaborated with Chinese musicians. The tour was a major success and helped to establish Wind Sync as an international chamber music ensemble. Wind Sync's commitment to chamber music and music education has earned them numerous accolades and awards. In addition to their Concert Artists Guild victory, the group has also won the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition. They have also been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America. Overall, Wind Sync is a dynamic and innovative chamber music ensemble that has established itself as one of the most exciting groups in the classical music world. With their commitment to music education and outreach, as well as their dedication to innovative programming and performance, Wind Sync is sure to continue making waves in the chamber music scene for years to come.
