The ensemble is known for its exceptional performances of Baroque and Classical music, as well as its dedication to promoting Hungarian music and culture. The founding members of Hungarica Camerata were all accomplished musicians who had previously played with the Hungarian State Orchestra. They included János Rolla (violin), László Czidra (violin), György Konrád (viola), Károly Botvay (cello), and János Devich (double bass). The ensemble was initially formed as a string quintet, but later expanded to include other instruments such as the harpsichord and flute. From the beginning, Hungarica Camerata was committed to performing music from the Baroque and Classical periods with authenticity and precision. The ensemble's members studied historical performance practices and used period instruments whenever possible to recreate the sound of the music as it would have been heard in its original context. One of the highlights of Hungarica Camerata's early career was their performance at the 1982 Salzburg Festival. The ensemble was invited to perform as part of the festival's "Young Artists" series, which showcased up-and-coming musicians from around the world. The performance was a great success, and helped to establish Hungarica Camerata as one of the most promising young ensembles in Europe. Over the years, Hungarica Camerata has performed at many of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals. They have collaborated with some of the most renowned soloists and conductors in the classical music world, including Sir Neville Marriner, Pinchas Zukerman, and Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to their performances of Baroque and Classical music, Hungarica Camerata has also been a champion of Hungarian music and culture. They have commissioned and premiered many works by Hungarian composers, and have recorded several albums of Hungarian music, including a collection of folk songs arranged for chamber ensemble. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements was their recording of the complete chamber music of Franz Joseph Haydn. The project took several years to complete, and involved recording over 80 works by the composer. The recordings were released on the Naxos label, and received widespread critical acclaim. In recognition of their contributions to the world of classical music, Hungarica Camerata has received numerous awards and honors. In 1991, they were awarded the prestigious Kossuth Prize, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an artist in Hungary. They have also been awarded the Franz Liszt Prize, the Bartók-Pásztory Prize, and the Hungarian Heritage Award. Despite changes in personnel over the years, Hungarica Camerata has remained committed to their mission of performing classical music with authenticity and passion. They continue to tour extensively, and have released over 30 albums of music on various labels. Today, Hungarica Camerata is recognized as one of the finest chamber ensembles in the world. Their dedication to historical performance practices and their commitment to promoting Hungarian music and culture have made them a beloved institution in the classical music world.More....
