Alan Widdowson was born on May 12, 1975, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Widdowson showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Widdowson's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking formal piano lessons at the age of six and quickly progressed through the grades. By the time he was a teenager, Widdowson was already performing in public and had won several local competitions. In 1993, Widdowson was accepted into the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires. During his time at the academy, Widdowson honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of classical music. After graduating from the academy in 1997, Widdowson began performing professionally. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile pianist, capable of playing a wide range of styles and genres. He performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In 2001, he was awarded the prestigious International Classical Music Award for his recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 32. The following year, he was awarded the Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Recording for his recording of Chopin's Nocturnes. In 2015, Widdowson suffered a serious injury to his hand, which forced him to take a break from performing. In 2019, Widdowson made a triumphant return to the stage, performing a sold-out concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The concert was hailed as a triumph, and Widdowson received a standing ovation from the audience.
