Role:EnsemblePeriod:ContemporaryModernGenre:ChoralThe Choral Project is a classical music ensemble based in San Jose, California. Founded in 1996 by Daniel Hughes, the group has become known for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. Hughes, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Southern California, had a vision for a choral group that would push the boundaries of traditional choral music. He wanted to create a group that would explore new repertoire and collaborate with other artists to create unique performances. The Choral Project began as a small group of singers who met in Hughes' living room to rehearse. Over time, the group grew in size and reputation, and began performing in venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. One of the group's early highlights was a performance of Mozart's Requiem in 1998. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and helped establish The Choral Project as a major player in the Bay Area classical music scene. In the years that followed, The Choral Project continued to grow and evolve. The group began collaborating with other artists, including dancers, visual artists, and poets, to create multimedia performances that blended music with other art forms. One of the group's most ambitious projects was a collaboration with the San Jose Chamber Orchestra in 2006. The two groups joined forces to perform Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, a monumental work that requires a large orchestra, chorus, and soloists. The concert was a huge success, and cemented The Choral Project's reputation as a group that could tackle even the most challenging works in the classical repertoire. Over the years, The Choral Project has won numerous awards and accolades for its performances. In 2003, the group won first place in the Mixed Choirs category at the International Choral Kathaumixw competition in Canada. The following year, the group won the Grand Prize at the Tolosa International Choral Competition in Spain. In addition to its performances and awards, The Choral Project has also been active in the community. The group has worked with local schools to promote music education, and has performed benefit concerts for a variety of charitable organizations. Today, The Choral Project continues to be a major force in the Bay Area classical music scene. The group performs regularly throughout the region, and has released several critically acclaimed recordings. With its innovative programming and commitment to excellence, The Choral Project is sure to remain a fixture in the world of classical music for years to come.More....
