Johann Valentin Hamm was a German composer and musician who lived during the Baroque period. He was born on February 14, 1730, in the town of Weissenburg, which is located in the Franconia region of Bavaria. His father, Johann Georg Hamm, was a musician and organist, and it was under his tutelage that Johann Valentin began his musical education. As a child, Johann Valentin showed a great aptitude for music, and he quickly became proficient on a number of instruments, including the violin, harpsichord, and organ. He also showed a talent for composition, and by the age of 16, he had already written several pieces of music. In 1746, Johann Valentin moved to Nuremberg, where he continued his musical studies under the tutelage of Johann Pachelbel, a renowned composer and organist. It was during this time that Johann Valentin began to develop his own unique style of composition, which was heavily influenced by the works of Bach, Handel, and Telemann. In 1750, Johann Valentin was appointed as the organist at the Church of St. Sebald in Nuremberg, a position he held for the rest of his life. During his tenure at the church, he composed a number of works for the organ, including preludes, fugues, and chorale settings. In addition to his work at the church, Johann Valentin also composed a number of secular works, including chamber music, concertos, and symphonies. One of his most famous works is his Symphony in D Major, which was composed in 1760. The symphony is notable for its use of the horn, which was a relatively new instrument at the time. Johann Valentin was also known for his vocal music, and he composed a number of cantatas, oratorios, and masses. One of his most famous vocal works is his oratorio, "Die Auferstehung und Himmelfahrt Jesu Christi" (The Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ), which was composed in 1765. The oratorio is notable for its use of soloists, choir, and orchestra, and it is considered to be one of Johann Valentin's greatest works. Throughout his career, Johann Valentin was highly regarded as a composer and musician. He was known for his technical skill and his ability to create complex and intricate works of music. He was also known for his use of counterpoint, which was a hallmark of Baroque music. Johann Valentin died on January 27, 1802, in Nuremberg. He left behind a legacy of music that continues to be celebrated and performed to this day. His works are considered to be some of the finest examples of Baroque music, and his contributions to the genre have had a lasting impact on the world of classical music.
