The Women's Chorus of Dallas (WCD) is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1989 by Dr. Timothy Seelig. The group is made up of over 100 women from the Dallas-Fort Worth area who share a passion for choral music and a commitment to excellence in performance. Dr. Seelig, who served as the group's artistic director for 20 years, had a vision of creating a women's chorus that would be a powerful force in the Dallas arts community. He believed that women's voices had a unique quality that could be harnessed to create beautiful and inspiring music. Under Dr. Seelig's leadership, the Women's Chorus of Dallas quickly established itself as one of the premier choral ensembles in the region. The group's repertoire includes a wide range of classical and contemporary music, as well as traditional folk songs and spirituals. One of the hallmarks of the Women's Chorus of Dallas is its commitment to community outreach and education. The group regularly performs at schools, churches, and community events, and has developed a number of educational programs designed to introduce young people to the joys of choral music. Over the years, the Women's Chorus of Dallas has been recognized for its outstanding performances and contributions to the arts community. The group has received numerous awards and accolades, including the prestigious Chorus America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Some of the highlights of the Women's Chorus of Dallas's major performances include: - In 1993, the group performed at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. as part of the National Women's Music Festival. - In 1996, the Women's Chorus of Dallas performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. as part of the National Festival of Women's Choirs. - In 2000, the group performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the National Festival of Women's Choirs. - In 2005, the Women's Chorus of Dallas performed at the American Choral Directors Association National Convention in Los Angeles. - In 2010, the group performed at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio. In addition to its major performances, the Women's Chorus of Dallas has also collaborated with a number of other arts organizations in the Dallas area. The group has worked with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Opera, and the Dallas Theater Center, among others. Today, the Women's Chorus of Dallas continues to be a vital and vibrant part of the Dallas arts community. The group is led by artistic director Melinda Imthurn, who has continued the tradition of excellence established by Dr. Seelig. The Women's Chorus of Dallas remains committed to its mission of promoting choral music and enriching the lives of its members and audiences alike.
