Born on May 12, 1935, in Milan, Italy, Omaggio was the son of a music teacher and grew up surrounded by music. His father, who was a pianist, introduced him to the world of music at a young age, and he quickly developed a passion for it. Omaggio began his formal music education at the age of six when he started taking piano lessons. He showed exceptional talent and quickly progressed through the ranks. By the time he was a teenager, he was already performing in public concerts and had gained a reputation as a prodigy. In 1953, Omaggio moved to the United States to further his music education. He enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Rosina Lhévinne. He also studied composition with Vincent Persichetti and conducting with Jean Morel. Omaggio's talent and hard work paid off, and he quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world. In 1956, he won the prestigious Naumburg International Piano Competition, which helped launch his career. He went on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Omaggio was known for his virtuosic piano playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart.
