Duo Leonore is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2013 by violinist Benjamin Baker and pianist Diana Ambache. The duo has gained international recognition for their dynamic and expressive performances, which showcase their exceptional musicianship and deep understanding of the classical repertoire. Benjamin Baker was born in New Zealand and began playing the violin at the age of four. He went on to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School in England and the Royal College of Music, where he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Scholarship. Diana Ambache, on the other hand, was born in London and began playing the piano at the age of five. She studied at the Royal College of Music and later at the Juilliard School in New York. The two musicians first met in 2012, when they were both performing at the International Musicians Seminar in Prussia Cove, Cornwall. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and decided to form a duo. They named themselves Duo Leonore after Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio, which was originally titled Leonore. Since their formation, Duo Leonore has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. They have appeared at major venues such as Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also been featured on BBC Radio 3 and have recorded for the Champs Hill and Rubicon labels. One of the highlights of Duo Leonore's career was their performance at the 2016 BBC Proms. They were invited to perform as part of the Proms Chamber Music series, which showcases some of the world's finest chamber musicians. Duo Leonore performed a program of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Ravel, which was met with critical acclaim. In addition to their performances, Duo Leonore has also been recognized for their recordings. Their debut album, which features works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann, was released in 2016 and received widespread praise. The album was named one of the "Top 10 Classical Albums of 2016" by The Guardian and was awarded the "Editor's Choice" by Gramophone magazine. Duo Leonore has also been recognized for their commitment to promoting classical music to a wider audience. They have worked with organizations such as Music in Hospitals and Care and Live Music Now, which bring live music to people in hospitals, care homes, and other settings. They have also given masterclasses and workshops to young musicians, inspiring the next generation of classical musicians. Overall, Duo Leonore is a dynamic and talented ensemble that has made a significant impact on the classical music world. Their exceptional musicianship, expressive performances, and commitment to promoting classical music make them a truly unique and inspiring duo.More....
