Meston Reid was born on May 12, 1985, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Meston showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Meston's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly progressed, showing a natural ability for the instrument. By the age of ten, Meston had already won several local piano competitions and was gaining recognition as a prodigious talent. At the age of twelve, Meston was accepted into the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, England. The school is renowned for its rigorous musical training and has produced some of the world's most celebrated musicians. Meston thrived in this environment, receiving expert tuition from some of the best teachers in the world. During his time at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Meston developed a deep love for classical music and began to explore the works of the great composers. He was particularly drawn to the music of Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin, and spent countless hours studying their compositions. Meston's talent continued to flourish, and he began to gain recognition as a rising star in the classical music world. He won several prestigious piano competitions, including the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, and the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, Russia. In 2005, Meston made his debut performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a resounding success, and Meston received a standing ovation from the audience. This performance marked the beginning of Meston's international career, and he began to receive invitations to perform at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. Over the years, Meston has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Valery Gergiev. Meston's repertoire is vast and includes works from all the major composers, from Bach to Rachmaninoff. He is particularly renowned for his interpretations of Beethoven's piano sonatas, which he has performed in their entirety on several occasions. In addition to his performing career, Meston is also a respected teacher and has taught at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Meston has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including the prestigious Gramophone Award for Best Instrumental Recording in 2010.
