Her father, Nurulla-Khoja, was a well-known composer and conductor, and her mother, Zulfiya, was a singer. Farangis grew up in a musical family and started playing the piano at the age of five. She showed a great interest in music from a young age and began composing her own pieces when she was just nine years old. Farangis received her formal music education at the Tashkent State Conservatory, where she studied composition under the guidance of Professor Boris Tishchenko. She graduated with honors in 1975 and went on to pursue a career in music composition. Her early works were heavily influenced by the traditional music of Uzbekistan, and she often incorporated folk melodies and rhythms into her compositions. One of Farangis's most significant works is her opera, "The Legend of the Silk Road," which premiered in Tashkent in 1984. The opera tells the story of a young girl who travels along the Silk Road and encounters various characters and cultures along the way. The music is a fusion of Western classical music and traditional Uzbek music, and the opera was praised for its innovative approach to storytelling and music composition. Farangis's other notable works include her ballet, "The Snow Queen," which premiered in Tashkent in 1989, and her symphony, "The Silk Road," which was commissioned by the Uzbekistan State Symphony Orchestra in 1992. The symphony is a musical journey along the Silk Road, and it features traditional Uzbek instruments such as the dutar and the doira. In addition to her work as a composer, Farangis has also been a dedicated music educator. She has taught composition at the Tashkent State Conservatory since 1980 and has mentored many young composers who have gone on to achieve success in their own right. Farangis's music has been performed by orchestras and ensembles around the world, including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to music, including the State Prize of Uzbekistan in 1995 and the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation in 2002. Farangis Nurulla-Khoja's music is a unique blend of Western classical music and traditional Uzbek music.
