Sofie Asplund is a Swedish classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a talented violinist and chamber musician. Born on May 5, 1987, in Stockholm, Sweden, Asplund grew up in a family of musicians. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a cellist, so it was only natural that she would develop an interest in music at a young age. Asplund began playing the violin when she was just four years old, and by the time she was six, she was already performing in public. She studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where she received her Bachelor's degree in 2009. She then went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, where she received her Master's degree in 2012. Throughout her career, Asplund has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. One of Asplund's most notable performances was at the Nobel Prize ceremony in 2014, where she performed with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. She also performed at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Asplund has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2010, she won first prize in the International Violin Competition in Kloster Schöntal, Germany. She was also a finalist in the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis in 2014. In addition to her solo career, Asplund is also a member of the Kungsbacka Piano Trio, which she co-founded in 1997. The trio has performed extensively throughout Europe and has released several critically acclaimed recordings. Asplund is known for her passionate and expressive playing style, as well as her technical virtuosity. She is also known for her commitment to contemporary music, having premiered several new works by composers such as Anders Hillborg and Karin Rehnqvist. In addition to her performing career, Asplund is also a dedicated teacher.
