Julia Tai is a renowned conductor and music educator who has made significant contributions to the classical music industry. Born in Taiwan, Tai grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. Her parents were both music teachers, and they encouraged her to pursue her passion for music from a young age. Tai began her musical journey by learning the piano at the age of four. She also gained valuable experience as a conductor, leading several student orchestras and ensembles. After completing her studies, Tai began her professional career as a conductor. She served as the assistant conductor of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and the music director of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra. She also worked as a guest conductor for several other orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Tai was appointed as the music director of the Philharmonia Northwest, a Seattle-based chamber orchestra. Under her leadership, the orchestra has gained a reputation for its innovative programming and high-quality performances. Tai has also been instrumental in promoting the works of contemporary composers and has commissioned several new pieces for the orchestra.
