In 1958, he won the prestigious International Bach Competition in Leipzig, which helped to launch his career. Morawietz went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory, where he honed his skills under the tutelage of some of the most renowned musicians of the time. He also studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin, where he earned a degree in piano performance. Throughout his career, Morawietz performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. He was known for his virtuosic piano playing and his ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin. One of Morawietz's most significant performances was his 1965 debut at the Berlin Philharmonic. He played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. He went on to perform with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Morawietz was also a prolific recording artist, and he released numerous albums throughout his career. His recordings of the works of Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin are considered some of the finest interpretations of these composers' music. In addition to his performing and recording career, Morawietz was also a respected music educator.
