Born in 1989 in San Diego, California, Reid grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her father was a jazz pianist and her mother was a singer, and they encouraged her to explore music in her own way. Reid began playing the trumpet at the age of 10 and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. She studied music at the University of California, San Diego, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2011. During her time at UCSD, Reid was introduced to the world of experimental music and began to explore the possibilities of sound beyond traditional classical music. After graduating, Reid moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. She quickly became involved in the city's vibrant experimental music scene, collaborating with other musicians and artists to create innovative and boundary-pushing works. In 2014, she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Experimental Sound Practices from the California Institute of the Arts. Throughout her career, Reid has been recognized for her innovative approach to music and sound. In 2015, she was awarded the Pauline Oliveros Prize for her work in experimental music. The prize, named after the pioneering composer and sound artist, is awarded annually to a woman composer or sound artist who is pushing the boundaries of music and sound. Reid's work has been performed at major venues and festivals around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, and the International Computer Music Conference. She has also collaborated with a wide range of artists, including choreographers, visual artists, and filmmakers. One of Reid's most notable works is her piece "Underneath," which was commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and premiered at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2018. The piece, which was performed by the LA Phil's brass section, features a series of intricate and interlocking rhythms that create a hypnotic and mesmerizing effect. In addition to her work as a composer and performer, Reid is also an educator and advocate for experimental music. She has taught at the California Institute of the Arts and the University of California, San Diego, and has given lectures and workshops on sound art and experimental music around the world.
