Period:ModernRobert Atchison was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. Atchison showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later picked up the violin and the cello, and by the age of ten, he was already performing in public. Atchison attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman. He also studied with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Emanuel Ax. Atchison graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007. Atchison's career took off when he won the prestigious International Violin Competition in Indianapolis in 2008. The competition, which is held every four years, attracts some of the world's most talented young violinists. Atchison's performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major impressed the judges, and he was awarded the first prize. Following his win at the Indianapolis competition, Atchison was invited to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2009, performing Brahms' Violin Concerto in D Major with the New York Philharmonic.
