He was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1710, into a family of musicians. His father, Evaristo Felice Dall'Abaco, was a composer and cellist, and his mother, Maria Margherita Grandi, was a singer. Joseph-Marie-Clément was the youngest of their six children, and he showed an early aptitude for music. At the age of 14, Joseph-Marie-Clément was sent to study music in Italy, where he studied under the famous cellist and composer Antonio Vivaldi. He quickly became a skilled cellist and composer, and his works began to gain recognition throughout Europe. In 1735, Joseph-Marie-Clément was appointed as the court cellist for the Elector of Bavaria, Charles Albert. He remained in this position for the rest of his life, and his compositions were often performed at court. He also served as the director of the court orchestra, and he was responsible for organizing and conducting many of the court's musical events. Joseph-Marie-Clément's compositions were highly regarded during his lifetime, and he was considered one of the leading composers of his time. His works were characterized by their virtuosity and technical skill, as well as their emotional depth and expressiveness. One of Joseph-Marie-Clément's most famous works is his set of 11 Concerti a più instrumenti, Op. 5. These concertos were composed for a variety of instruments, including the violin, cello, oboe, and trumpet, and they showcase Joseph-Marie-Clément's skill as a composer and his ability to write for a wide range of instruments. Another notable work by Joseph-Marie-Clément is his set of 12 Capricci for solo cello, Op. 25.
