Australian Virtuosi is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by pianist and artistic director, Glenn Riddle. The ensemble is made up of some of Australia's most talented and accomplished musicians, who have come together to create a unique and dynamic sound that showcases the best of classical music. Glenn Riddle, who is also the founder of the Australian International Chopin Piano Competition, had a vision to create an ensemble that would bring together the best classical musicians in Australia to perform together. He wanted to create a group that would showcase the incredible talent that exists in Australia and bring classical music to a wider audience. The ensemble's main members include Glenn Riddle on piano, violinists Niki Vasilakis and Sophie Rowell, violist Christopher Moore, cellist Julian Smiles, and double bassist Kees Boersma. Each member of the ensemble is a highly accomplished musician in their own right, with a wealth of experience performing both nationally and internationally. Since its founding, Australian Virtuosi has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Australia and around the world. The ensemble has performed at the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Centre, and the Adelaide Festival Centre, among others. They have also performed at international festivals such as the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Hong Kong Arts Festival. One of the highlights of Australian Virtuosi's career was their performance at the 2012 London Olympics. The ensemble was invited to perform at the Australian High Commission in London as part of the official cultural program for the Olympics. The performance was a huge success, with the ensemble receiving rave reviews from both the audience and the media. Australian Virtuosi has also been recognized for their outstanding performances with a number of awards and accolades. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious APRA Award for Excellence in Classical Music. The award recognized the ensemble's outstanding contribution to classical music in Australia and their commitment to promoting and performing the works of Australian composers. In addition to their performances, Australian Virtuosi is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for young musicians, helping to inspire and develop the next generation of classical musicians.
