The New Queen's Hall Light Orchestra was a British classical music ensemble that was founded in 1955 by Charles Williams, a renowned composer and conductor. The orchestra was named after the original Queen's Hall Light Orchestra, which was disbanded in 1940 due to the outbreak of World War II. The New Queen's Hall Light Orchestra was made up of some of the finest musicians in the country, including members of the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra's repertoire consisted mainly of light classical music, including works by composers such as Johann Strauss II, Franz Lehár, and Eric Coates. One of the highlights of the New Queen's Hall Light Orchestra's career was their performance at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 1956. The concert was a huge success, with the orchestra receiving a standing ovation from the audience. The orchestra also performed at the Edinburgh Festival and the Cheltenham Festival, among other prestigious venues. In addition to their live performances, the New Queen's Hall Light Orchestra also recorded extensively. Their recordings were hugely popular, and the orchestra's albums sold millions of copies around the world. Some of their most famous recordings include "The Dam Busters March" and "The Devil's Galop". The New Queen's Hall Light Orchestra was also recognized for their contributions to classical music. In 1957, they were awarded the Ivor Novello Award for Best Light Orchestral Performance. The orchestra also received a Grammy nomination for their album "The World of Eric Coates". Despite their success, the New Queen's Hall Light Orchestra was disbanded in 1961 due to financial difficulties. However, their legacy lives on, and their recordings continue to be enjoyed by classical music fans around the world.
