Hans Rott was a classical music composer born on August 1, 1858, in Vienna, Austria. He was the son of a piano teacher and a singer, and his parents recognized his musical talent at an early age. Rott began his musical education at the Vienna Conservatory at the age of 14, where he studied composition with Anton Bruckner. Rott was a gifted composer, and his early works showed great promise. In 1880, he composed his Symphony in E major, which was well-received by his teachers and fellow students. The symphony was performed at the conservatory, and it was praised for its originality and complexity. After completing his studies at the conservatory, Rott began working as a conductor and composer. He worked as an assistant conductor at the Vienna Court Opera and the Bayreuth Festival, where he worked closely with Richard Wagner. Rott was deeply influenced by Wagner's music, and his own compositions reflected this influence. In 1884, Rott began work on his Symphony No. 1 in E major, which would become his most famous work. The symphony was completed in 1886, and it was premiered in Vienna in 1889. The performance was a disaster, and the audience and critics were highly critical of the work. Rott was devastated by the reception, and he suffered a mental breakdown shortly after the premiere. Rott's mental health continued to deteriorate, and he was eventually committed to a mental institution in 1890. He spent the rest of his life in and out of institutions, and he died in 1884 at the age of 25.
