His father was a pianist, and his mother was a singer. From a young age, Ugoletti showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Ugoletti's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began his formal music education at the age of six, studying piano and music theory at the Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini in Florence. He later studied composition with renowned Italian composer Franco Donatoni at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Ugoletti's early compositions were heavily influenced by the works of Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. He was particularly drawn to the classical forms of the sonata and the symphony and sought to incorporate these forms into his own compositions. In 1980, Ugoletti's Symphony No. 1 premiered at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy. The piece was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and it established Ugoletti as a rising star in the world of classical music. Over the next several years, Ugoletti continued to compose symphonies, concertos, and chamber music. His works were characterized by their intricate harmonies, complex rhythms, and use of traditional forms. He was also known for his use of unconventional instruments, such as the glass harmonica and the theremin. In 1992, Ugoletti's Symphony No. 5 premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.
