Ann Satterfield was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Satterfield showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of four. As she grew older, Satterfield became more interested in classical music and began studying the violin. She quickly excelled at the instrument and began performing in local orchestras and competitions. By the age of 12, she had won several awards and was invited to perform with the New York Philharmonic. Satterfield continued to study the violin throughout her teenage years and eventually attended the Juilliard School in New York City. There, she studied under some of the most renowned violinists in the world and honed her skills as a performer. After graduating from Juilliard, Satterfield began performing professionally and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented young violinists in the world. She performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. In addition to her work as a soloist, Satterfield was also an accomplished chamber musician. She performed regularly with some of the most renowned chamber ensembles in the world, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. Throughout her career, Satterfield received numerous awards and accolades for her performances. She won the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2008 and was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2012. She was also a frequent guest on television and radio programs, where she discussed her work as a musician and shared her love of classical music with audiences around the world. Despite her success as a performer, Satterfield remained committed to her work as an educator. She taught at several universities throughout her career, including the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music. She also worked with young musicians through various outreach programs, helping to inspire the next generation of classical musicians. Sadly, Satterfield's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, she passed away on June 15, 2017, at the age of 32. In the years since her passing, Satterfield's legacy as a musician and educator has continued to inspire countless musicians around the world. Her recordings and performances continue to be celebrated for their technical brilliance and emotional depth, and her dedication to music education has helped to shape the careers of countless young musicians.
