Musicians' Accord is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1984 by pianist Judith Gordon and cellist Rhonda Rider. The ensemble is known for its innovative programming and collaborations with contemporary composers. Judith Gordon and Rhonda Rider met while studying at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. They quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music and began performing together as a duo. In 1984, they decided to expand their collaboration and form a larger ensemble. They invited several of their colleagues to join them, including violinist Gabriela Diaz, violist Scott Woolweaver, and clarinetist Rane Moore. The ensemble's name, Musicians' Accord, reflects its commitment to collaboration and communication among its members. The group's mission is to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music and to bring new works to audiences. Musicians' Accord has commissioned and premiered numerous works by contemporary composers, including John Harbison, Lee Hyla, and Elena Ruehr. Musicians' Accord has performed at major venues throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Library of Congress. The ensemble has also toured internationally, performing in Europe and Asia. Musicians' Accord has been praised for its virtuosic playing and its ability to bring new life to familiar works. One of the ensemble's most notable performances was a concert at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston in 1990. The program featured works by Mozart, Schumann, and Brahms, as well as a world premiere of a work by John Harbison. The concert was recorded and released on the Northeastern Records label, receiving critical acclaim. Musicians' Accord has also been recognized for its recordings. The ensemble's recording of Lee Hyla's "We Speak Etruscan" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005. The group's recording of John Harbison's "String Trio" was also highly praised. In addition to its performances and recordings, Musicians' Accord is committed to education and outreach. The ensemble has conducted masterclasses and workshops for students of all ages, and has worked with community organizations to bring classical music to underserved audiences. Musicians' Accord has undergone some changes in its membership over the years, but its commitment to collaboration and innovation remains strong. The current members of the ensemble are Judith Gordon (piano), Rhonda Rider (cello), Gabriela Diaz (violin), and Rane Moore (clarinet). The group continues to perform and record, and is dedicated to bringing the beauty and excitement of chamber music to audiences around the world.
