Steven Byess is a renowned conductor and pianist in the world of classical music. He was born on August 22, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio, to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Byess grew up surrounded by music and started playing the piano at the age of four. Byess attended the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied piano with Sergei Babayan and conducting with Carl Topilow. He later went on to earn a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Michigan.
